Frequently asked questions about working in business services

What level of responsibility can I expect?

You’ll benefit from a high level of responsibility, appropriate to your experience and never more than you can handle. We believe in stretching people and supporting them at the same time.

What opportunities are there to work overseas?

Depending on business needs there may be opportunities for people to spend time in one of our other offices. You may also travel overseas for internal training courses, primarily to our London office.

What opportunities are there to move into other areas within the firm?

This will always depend on the skill-set required for a particular role. We always advertise all new jobs within the firm before approaching external candidates to ensure that those wishing to move internally may have the opportunity to do so.

Are there opportunities for flextime or flexible working hours?

Yes.

Do you look for different skills in each of the Business Services areas within the firm?

Yes, while there are some common core characteristics such as teamwork and initiative, each area calls for some specific skills. For instance, computer abilities are important if you are joining ISS and numeracy is essential for roles in finance. In many of the Business Services areas, we expect you to have a relevant professional qualification.

What percentage of people within the firm work for Business Services?

At present it is about 50%.

Do I have to do overtime?

Some roles may call for overtime at certain times. We expect all our new joiners to be flexible about working overtime occasionally.

What is the dress code?

We operate a “smart” business casual dress policy. However, for client meetings and interviews we do expect you to wear appropriate business dress.
