Joshua Berick made a lateral move to Linklaters from a well established international firm in New York, because he saw what he describes as a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.
“I came from an ‘international’ firm, but it was very much a NY firm with inroads into markets around the world. With Linklaters you are part of a truly global firm, evidenced by the way we work. We are constantly thinking and acting globally. Every time we work on something it involves one or more of our offices from around the world. A lot of the mature NY-based big international firms are not global in the same way. The depth of global resource at Linklaters is quite unique – and it’s nothing to do with size, it’s all to do with mindset.
“What made the move doubly attractive was the opportunity to play an active, entrepreneurial role in the firm’s ambitious growth plans in the US. I joined in the early stages of the NY practice ‘re-launch’, so as well as the legal work, I was helping to build the infrastructure of the business. Being involved in the logistics and commercial issues of developing a practice in an extremely competitive market has been immensely challenging, but also extremely satisfying. To have such all-round involvement in the growth of a top tier firm was an opportunity not to be missed.”
