Elisabet Lundgren, as a Partner in Technology, Media and Telecomms in Stockholm, has witnessed many changes over the past decade or so. Here, she describes how becoming global has benefited the people in the firm.
"Around five or six years ago, the firm I was working for merged with Linklaters. It’s fair to say the changes since then have been significant. Linklaters now is a truly integrated international firm, with a strategy and vision to become one of the leading international law firms, providing high quality work to international clients. It’s a much more modern, team-focused approach – and it has many benefits. The fact is, we have a huge capacity throughout the firm – and that global experience and expertise gives us all real confidence, especially when pitching our services to clients.
"The training has increased incredibly in the last couple of years, so that it now covers technical, project management and people management aspects on top of the top tier legal training you might expect. There is also specific training for partners on leadership and business development, and a new partner induction course that lasts three days in total. What’s more, the calibre of training is the same in every Linklaters office throughout the world.
"To give you an example, one of my associates recently went on secondment to London, and is dealing quite comfortably with large, complex transactions. Even though she is a Swedish lawyer, to whom UK law is relatively new and foreign, she’s able to competently tackle the vast majority of the issues that arise. For me, that’s very interesting to see – and a real indication of how far ahead this firm truly is."
