Linda Robinson, Group Secretary within Mainstream Corporate, has been with Linklaters now for 11 years. For her, variety is a word that really resonates.
“It probably sounds a little trite to say no two days are the same, but there’s a real truth in it. Since I started here, my responsibilities have only grown to the point now where I’m working closely with two partners, including the Global Head of Corporate, as well as managing the secretaries within my group. So one minute I could be managing the workload in the office, another I could be talking to lawyers around the world. Variety defines not only the breadth of the work, but also the range of people I come into contact with.
“You don’t stay at a firm for 11 years if it doesn’t continue to push and stretch you. I had, after all, worked at two other professional services firms before Linklaters – and I didn’t stay there for anywhere near as long as this. The work we do here is interesting and stimulating, and it is constant. In Corporate, if a deal’s going on, you have to be ready to support the team and work late if need be. That’s not every night or even every week, but it will happen.
“It’s a different type of culture from many other types of organisation –professional, intense and demanding. But that’s why I do it. I feel like I’m learning things all the time.”
