Christian completed LLM at LSE University, UK, and is now working as a Managing Associate in Frankfurt.

From LLM home to Germany.

I did an LLM to improve my English and meet people from all over the world; but professionally I wanted to study the LLM because it allows you to specialise. For example, I now work in capital markets. This isn’t covered by a law degree whereas the LLM goes into more detail and provides you with that extra knowledge.

Did you apply to any other firms besides Linklaters?
Yes. All the big firms, although I always knew I wanted to go back to Linklaters (I did an internship here during my degree). I had spent four months here so I knew and liked the people and the team. And after applying to other firms, I still found it the best option.

What’s the best thing about the firm?
Your day-to-day working environment is personal and you work closely with your colleagues, and yet you have the resources and support of a large, international firm.

What would your advice to LLM students be?
Apply. Do it. LLM students are internationally minded; and if that is the way you want to go forward, you can only really do that by working for an international firm. It’s challenging every day. It keeps you going. New projects come up all the time. It’s never routine.
