Our work

Business Teams

With offices in 30 cities around the world, we offer expert legal services across a wide range of jurisdictions and best-in-class divisions, in Corporate, Finance, and Dispute Resolution. And while our lawyers tackle complex global work, so will you. Just as they're supported by colleagues around the world, you will be too.

Join one of our Business Teams and you'll play a pivotal role in our work, influencing senior lawyers and serving clients. Very simply, we offer you a highly challenging career, supported by investment in the latest processes, services and technology.

There are many compelling reasons to join the team, starting with the vision we share: by fulfilling individual potential, we will become the best-in-class law firm. You'll be central to our success, driving change, instilling best practice and providing the commercial edge we need to lead the market. But it's the calibre of your thinking that we value most. So while we set high standards, legal sector experience is not a pre-requisite. We welcome world-class professionals from different backgrounds and ideas. And we're committed to developing them with world-class development and training.

Our scope, too, is wide-ranging. Global opportunities are available in Finance, Business Management, Marketing, Human Resources, Knowledge and Learning, IT, Strategy, Legal Secretaries, Operations and Risk.

Apprenticeships

Did you know that you can work at a law firm, not be a graduate and not be a lawyer? To handle great change, we need great people from all walks of life and all levels of education.

If you are interested in gaining experience in teams including Finance, Technology, Human Resources or Corporate Social Responsibility, left education at 16 and are up for working in a busy and dynamic business environment then the Linklaters Apprentice Programme could be for you.

The programme, which runs for minimum of 12 months, gives school leavers the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in one of our Business Teams below, based in either London or Colchester. Aside from earning a salary, apprentices rotate around business teams to gain a broad understanding of Linklaters. In addition, you will have the opportunity to study for qualifications which we will support, both financially and with study leave. If that wasn't enough then there is an opportunity for you to continue for a second year and work towards securing an entry-level role at Linklaters.

Finance and Business Management

To compete in the fast-moving legal market, we need to be more than a strong commercial business - we need to adapt quickly. We want to lead the way in how we operate commercially and financially, which is why financial best practice is always front of mind

Our function is broad, and we have advisory teams in practices and support teams around the world. Our global teams in London focus on specific areas such as internal audit, finance policy and development, and financial reporting.

Our professionals are both highly valued for their advice and central to our strategy. And they're intimately involved in the running of big projects and building lasting client relationships.

Human Resources, Knowledge and Learning

A world-class HR function is paramount because our future rests on recruiting, retaining and developing the best global talent. The work is challenging and the standards exceptional. But so is the support you receive. Join us and you'll work with some of the brightest minds in HR and enjoy close access to partners and Business Teams leaders.

Our success depends on all of us sharing knowledge and resources, and HR is involved in cross-functional projects. So whether you're based in London or Lisbon, Singapore or Shanghai, you'll feel part of a global team, coming into contact with colleagues and initiatives from around the world. There's great variety on offer for your career, too. Specialise in an HR discipline, or widen it by getting involved in other practice areas.

Legal Secretaries

As a Legal Secretary, you'll be central to the firm, wherever you are in the world, supporting our lawyers and clients. So we make sure you have everything you need to do your job properly. Our resources are first-rate, our working environments are bright and modern, and we offer rewards for exceptional service. And while challenging work is an inescapable reality at Linklaters, you'll have the support of a genuine team behind you.

We offer an intranet site with bespoke secretarial content, a newsletter run by secretaries for secretaries, and regular idea-sharing calls between offices around the world. When it comes to your development, we offer plenty of flexibility, too. You could take on new responsibilities, a coaching or training role, or move to a different role entirely: in Marketing or HR, for example.

Marketing

Part of our vision is to be ‘best in class’, and to do this we need to be winning in our chosen markets. A marketing career at Linklaters puts you at the heart of realising this vision.

Our client development, business development and sector management teams are fundamental to global client relationships with the world’s leading companies and financial institutions. These relationships ensure we continue to attract the most important assignments.

Of equal importance, is the firm’s reputation. Our PR, communications and events teams around the world are behind the innovative marketing that enables us to nurture that reputation. You won’t be restricted to any one area of marketing, or location. And with secondments and broad exposure to our business on offer, you'll find we place a high value on career development

Operations

Operations provides our clients and colleagues with facilities and support services that mirror the excellent quality of our legal advice.

Roles can be demanding and cover such disciplines as Building Services, Reception & Front of House to Health & Safety and Security. They often provide opportunities to manage third-party supply contracts and manage major one-off projects through specialist contractors.

Legal & Risk

Managing risk is essential for protecting the firm’s reputation, and ensuring Linklaters succeeds in the face of ever-changing regulations and global trends. Our Legal & Risk department has global responsibility for managing risk and has offices in London, Germany, Hong Kong and New York. Our teams are:

1. Contentious Risk: managing claims and potential claims made against the firm globally;

2. Financial Crime: covering policy, advice and training on financial crime, including anti-money laundering, sanctions and reputational assessment of new business;

3. Business Acceptance: managing conflicts of interest and new client and matter acceptance;

4. Regulatory Compliance: managing the firm’s compliance with regulatory and professional obligations.

Strategy & Business Transformation

Linklaters' Strategy & Business Transformation team is a centre of excellence for strategic appraisal, project management, process optimisation and change management within the firm. We ensure that our practice and business services evolve in line with the firm’s global strategy.

Engaging decision makers to bring about sustainable change, a career here is an opportunity to work closely with our leaders, while gaining a broad view of the organisation. And best of all, everyone is committed to the same goals, and high standards.

Technology (IT)

At Linklaters, we invest considerably in the careers of technology professionals, and in the technology that helps us to serve our clients and our people better. We focus on delivering mobility to facilitate flexible working, access to know-how and collaboration for each other and our clients.

Using innovation in technology creates competitive advantage for the firm ahead of our competitors whilst maintaining the security of our networks keeps everyone on their toes.

We were the first law firm to implement SAP globally, the first to employ documentum as a content management solution, and the first to launch an extranet providing online legal services (through Online Subscription Products).

We work from a common IT platform and all our information is held centrally in four data centres. For the firm this ensures consistency, flexibility and reliability. For IT professionals, it offers global exposure. And wherever you join us, you'll be working as part of a global team, on projects that span the world.

Colchester

Some of our teams are based in Colchester, including part of our Technology teams, the Legal Service Centre, Payroll, Marketing Services, HR, L&D Operations, Switchboard, Helpline and DPU/Examiners.

Colchester is 51.2 miles (82.4 km) north-east of London. It claims to be the oldest town in Britain - it was once the capital of Roman Britain - and it's now one of the fastest growing. The offices are easily accessed by car and public transport (regular trains run to London Liverpool Street). They're host to excellent facilities, including an on-site restaurant, a large car-park, and a spacious open-plan working environment
