This is my first job after studying Linguistics and Human Resources at the University of Hong Kong. Linklaters’ reputation (as one of the Magic Circle firms) and culture really struck me.

After five years, I still really enjoy working here. Colleagues are really talented and supportive, both in my immediate team and in other functions. We help each other to deliver excellent service. And I think Linklaters cares about every individual. They’re a people-oriented business, where seniors want to hear from you. For example, the firm’s recent strategy refresh wasn’t a top-down directive, but instead was developed with the input of people in all areas of the firm, after many conversations.

Work-life balance is also positively encouraged, and we’re able to get to know each other through lots of social activities including team lunch and firm-wide events such as the Christmas Party and Spring Dinner. It’s a fun place to work.

I design and deliver training as an L&D professional. I love seeing participants taking something away that they can apply to their life and walking away grateful from the training room. With continuous learning and sharing, we can all grow and contribute to the firm. We’re also now offering training to clients, which will help to build our relationships there.

There are comprehensive learning and development programmes for all colleagues here including both Lawyers and Business Teams. Apart from technical legal training, the firm invests a lot in tailored professional skills and milestone courses pitched at the full spectrum of seniority levels, which helps us all. Individual coaching and mentoring sessions are also available to help our colleagues improve their personal impact and mindset, or identify their career path, and so on.

To thrive here, you’ll need to observe the current ‘rules’ – it's essential in a law firm to be professional. You should also have a global mindset and be collaborative (because we work as one firm) and be willing to take on challenges and learn from each other. And if you keep that in mind, there are many opportunities to progress. For me, I joined Linklaters as an L&D part-time student, was offered an Assistant role upon graduation and have since been promoted to L&D Advisor. Just remember to go the extra mile.
