I graduated with a law degree from the Juris Doctorate programme, before taking the Singapore Bar examinations. I then joined Linklaters as a trainee, where I was given the opportunity to rotate through various departments, including the banking and capital markets teams in Singapore and the structured finance group in London. This was a great experience, allowing me to develop a wide range of skills.
There is a buddy system for new joiners and trainees which is a great initiative. Each ‘buddy’ helps ensure that the new joiner is easing into the organisation smoothly. Linklaters also provide excellent professional support and mentors, plus learning and development teams who provide a wealth of knowledge.
My work is hugely varied. On a daily basis, I assist senior colleagues in preparing first drafts of documents, taking in comments and so forth. There are also plenty of opportunities for pro bono work. We have a community service committee which provides regular updates on the opportunities that are available, so there is always something interesting to get involved in.
The culture within the Linklaters offices both locally and globally is fantastic. People are approachable, and friendships are formed quickly through our shared work experiences and the multiple team events that happen throughout the year. Team outings range from Christmas lunches and dinners, to welcome and farewell drinks.
If you are thinking of joining Linklaters, then you will quickly find an inclusive and welcoming culture, that enables everyone to learn and grow professionally. My bosses and senior colleagues are patient and nurturing, and I have formed amazing friendships.
