You started your training contract in London. Why did you then move to Hong Kong?
I wanted to be closer to family, friends and the people I love. The firm made it happen. It provides a platform for people to explore opportunities internationally from the very beginning of their training contract, which is great. I did my fourth seat in Hong Kong and decided to stay here upon qualification.
What type of culture do you thrive in?
For me, it’s very important to be surrounded by people who support you in your development and who understand how you operate.
As a driven individual who sees my career as an important part of my life, there is nothing more motivating than having my goals recognised and supported. At the same time, the job can be stressful so it’s important to find an environment allows you to consistently operate at the top of your game.
Throughout my career I have been lucky to have senior lawyers around me here at Linklaters, who have supported me and helped me to grow and learn.
What type of training you get at Linklaters at your level?
We have a global Managing Associate course which takes place during the first 12 months of promotion. The firm recognises that managing associates need much more than technical training, so there's a lot of emphasis on core skills: how to build strong relationships with clients, how to manage a team and how to support trainees in their own development. You also receive one to one coaching tailored to your individual needs as a new managing associate, which is incredibly beneficial.
