What does it mean to be a newly promoted Managing Associate?
This is a career milestone that reflects not only your technical capability but also that you’re equipped for a managerial role within the firm. It feels great to be recognised by the firm to be able to fulfil that role. It is something that I've been looking forward to because it means more responsibility and a chance to advise on the strategy of my matters.
I've benefitted tremendously from the mentorship of senior lawyers within and outside my practice. However, it is also important to believe in yourself, take opportunities, action feedback and be the master of your own destiny.
Tell us a bit about your background and how your journey started?
I grew up in Calcutta, a city in eastern India. After high school, I studied engineering for a year. But I then realised that law was my true calling and switched to law school. In my penultimate year of law school, I was shortlisted for a vacation scheme interview by Linklaters but did not get an offer. After introspecting on where I could do better, I applied for a training contract after my final year and was successful.
