How has your background shaped who you are?

I was born in Hong Kong SAR and came to the UK when I was five. I then moved to Nottingham when I was ten, so have lived in a few places. It's made me a more flexible person as I'm happy to move around and adapt to change. I'm always open to trying new things and meeting new people.

What was your route into Linklaters?

I first came across Linklaters when I was 17 as part of a social mobility programme. It was really interesting meeting people from the firm and trying to understand their work. I then attended Pathfinder in my first year of university, before completing the Summer Vacation Scheme in my penultimate year.

Do you feel like you have autonomy at Linklaters?

As you progress through your training contract, you are given more and more responsibility. This is also driven by your confidence and putting up your hand to ask for more work. When people see you are capable, then they are happy to give you more responsibility.

What's your team and the Linklaters culture like?

It's a great team atmosphere. Everyone has been through the process before and so know what it's like to be a new trainee in a new department. Each of my principals were fantastic and I built close relationships with them all. They support you professionally during your seat and are good at keeping in touch and guiding you through the rest of your training contract. I kept in touch with my principals from the team that I ended up qualifying into, and their doors are still open five years later.
