Get Ahead

Get Ahead is a development programme, targeted at Black and other underrepresented groups, to help them succeed in the early stages of their career. You’ll take part in our bespoke virtual commercial awareness series, access one-to-one coaching and build a relationship with your dedicated buddy. This will put you in the best possible position to secure a Vacation Scheme with us.

The Programme

In 2020, we launched our Race Action Plan which publicly declared our commitment to become an anti-racist firm and pledged to improve the representation of Black and underrepresented minority ethnic individuals at all levels in our firm. This led to the creation of our Get Ahead programme, which develops talent from the very start. The programme includes:

  • Commercial Development Series: Across 11 virtual interactive sessions, you will deepen your understanding of the commercial considerations that are crucial to the role of a lawyer.
  • 1:1 Coaching: Spend time with our dedicated coach who will provide you with practical advice, improve your confidence and support you with your career journey. You’ll also take part in a mock interview to help prepare you for your assessment centre.
  • Buddy: Build your network at Linklaters through your buddy and gain firsthand insight into the work of a lawyer.

Key Dates and Eligibility

Eligibility:

  • Penultimate year and final year undergraduates, graduates and postgraduate students from UK or Irish universities
  • Who are of Black Heritage or other underrepresented minority ethnic backgrounds, including those of Asian Bangladeshi/Pakistani and members of the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller (GRT) community
  • Open to law and non-law students

Application window:

  • Applications open 1 April 2025 and closes 5 June 2025

Start Dates:

  • Development series: 11 virtual sessions throughout August – November 2025
